Three years ago in 2013, the WNBA was added to 2K Sports with NBA 2K20. It's not surprising that a female player has taken so long to be featured on the cover NBA 2K22 MT. Especially given that 2K Sports frequently releases multiple versions of the same game featuring various players. For instance, 2K21 featured Damian Lillard on consoles of the last generation, and Zion Williamson on Series X and PS5 versions. There was also a special "Mamba Forever" edition, in honour of Kobe Bryant.
The cover that is standard will feature Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks' star player The NBA 75th Anniversary Edition cover features NBA legends Dirk Nowitzki and Kareem AbdulJabbar. Another edition features the Washington Wizards' Rui Hachiura. The edition is only available in Japan.
Luka Docic, Candace Parker, and Kevin Durant will be the basketball players on the cover for NBA 2K22. The company announced today that Luka Doncic (Dallas Mavericks), Candace Parker (Chicago Sky and WNBA star) as well as Kevin Durant (Brookly Nets) will be the main players in the next NBA 2K game. NBA legends Kareem AbdulJabbar, Dirk Nowitzki and Durant will be on the cover of the NBA 75th anniversary edition. Parker will be the first WNBA player on the cover of NBA 2K's GameStop Exclusive Edition.
Durant graced the cover of NBA 2K13, along with Blake Griffin (and Derrick Rose) in the past. Doncic and Nowitzki are the first Mavericks ever to be featured on the cover of the game's long history. Abdul-Jabbar, Durant, and Nowitzki all have taken to Twitter to talk about their appearances on the cover. Abdul-Jabbar said it was "wowzer" to be on the cover. Durant and Doncic said it was an honor to be among the cover athletes, while Nowitzki joked in tweeting that "Not certain who the other guys were Buy NBA 2K MT, but it's an enormous honour" to be on the NBA2K22 cover.
